tournament is slated to kick off on the 19th of January and
end on the 10th of February in 2013.
For your information, on September 23, 2010, a decision of
CAF executive committee ruled to change the timetable for
the holding of AFCON from even to odd years for the
preliminary stages and selected South Africa to host the
edition which comes back-to-back with 2012 edition in Gabon
and Equatorial Guinea.
HOW LONESTAR REACHED THIS LEVEL:
The Lonestar was paired on a home & away basis with the
Brave Warriors of Namibia in the first round after Liberia's
opponent in the preliminary round, Mauritius withdrew,
automatically giving Lonestar a ticket to the first round of
qualification. A 1-0 victory on Feb. 29, 2012 in Monrovia
(thanks to a goal by Dioh Williams at the ATS), coupled with
a goalless draw away to Namibia in Windhoek on June 16,
2012, guaranteed her a place in the second/final phase of
qualification for the African Cup of Nations 2013 for the
first time in many years, advancing on a 1-0 aggregate.
