Did LFA Fire Coach Roberto Landi ?

L-R: Roberto Landi, Thomas Kolo, Kelvin Sebwe, Janya Jacobs

By Staff Reporter

Unconfirmed reports spreading across Liberia has revealed that the Liberia Football Association has fired it’s Italian head-coach Roberto Landi from his post as head coach of the nation pride and joy the Lone Star.

The Italian has been out of the country for more than a month now and failed to show up during the just ended National County Sports Meet to scout some potential legs for the future.

Landi has been widely criticized by the public for failing to show results during the few matches since he took over from the late Bertalan Bisckei last year.

The LFA spokesman Henry Flomo has not confirmed this report, but told Liberia’s State Radio ELBC sports desk on Thursday evening that he will be in a better position to provide details of this development on Friday or this weekend.

Credible sources confided to Liberiansoccer.com, that Thomas Kojo, who was already acting while Coach Landi was on vacation, is tapped to replace Landi as a caretaker coach. Kojo is presently working for South African First Division side Aziz Kara FC. Thomas Kojo is in Liberia right now because of the one month break of the South African National league.

Although Lone Star former international midfielder Kelvin Sebwe has not officially tendered a resignation letter to the FA regarding his position as Deputy Head Coach of the LoneStar, it was widely reported that Sebwe has resigned over contract issues.

Swgbe in an earlier interview with Liberiansoccer.com said that he felt as a professional and the coach that does the most work with the team he needs to get compensated like the foreign coach. Sebwe has trained the local team and was the head coach of the team when the foreign coach was not in Liberia.

LFA boss Musa Bility responded to the issue about Sebwe’s resignation when he was questioned on Truth FM weekend sports talk show.

“I was surprised to hear on the radio that Kelvin has resigned from the national team Deputy coach position, we are willing to work with the young man and hope he reconsiders his decision”, Bility explained.

With the international Friendly against Nigeria due in two weeks , this issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
