Jericho Back On Duty

Wleh Bedell
Senior National team Coach Frank Jericho Nagbe has returned to
the National team after abandoning the team on Friday due to death
threats.
The former NPA-Anchors tactician reported to training on Friday
afternoon when his side defeated Youthful Premier club Roots FC 2-1
in a closed door trial match.
Coach Jericho was seen heavily guarded by National Police
officers as his side pinned little Roots FC with the frst squad
featuring in the first half before the second string team comprising
of mainly locals got on in the second half.
The red, white, and blue outfit came from a goal down to conquer
their opponents' through goals from hard working midfielder Stephen
Mennoh and a spot kick from reserve goalkeepe Saylee Swen.
After the friendly Jericho noted "i cannot select and work wih my
players and then some so called big players come to force their way
in the squad". He said "It is unacceptable and these players must
know that they had their time, so they should give others the
chance"
He expressed optimism as he kept faith in the youngsters for
Sunday's clash.
At the same time the technical staff has released its starting
line up for the match against Cameroun.
In their usual 4-4-2 formation the the technical trio of Jericho
Nagbe, David Nimely and Matthew Kipi Doh have drawn a team they
believe can shock Africa in causing an upset to their more
illustrious opponents.
Sunday Seah-GoalKeeper
Ben Teekloh, Chris Gbandi, Larmin Ousman and Murphy Nagbe-Back
Four
Stephen Mennoh, Dulee Johnson, James Koko Lomell- Zah Krangar-midfield
quartet
Francis Doe & Frank Seator- Front Runners.
Both sides have similar tactics, but should go into the match in
contrasting styles.
The visitors are expected to start on a cautious note where they
would be a bit conservative in the proceedings and adapt the waiting
game as they will aim to catch the opponents on the break.
Their strongest point is their ability to win the ball with their
natural ball winning instinct as well as engage in the element of
surprise where they catch the opponents unaware.
Their strength lies on the right side where the Chelsea reject
Geremi Njitap and Daniel Ngom Kome operate.
The former operating as a wing back is very pacy and is endowed
with early crosses and superb man marking ability.
The latter is nimble footed as his vast speed and lowly crosses
prove a handful for the opposition.
The Spanish Second Division club Real Valladolid hard worker is
also endowed with good recovery, and was George Gebro's nemesis in
the corresponding tie which led to Gebro being red carded.
They play four across the middle in a virtually flat form.
OSC Lille indefatigable midfielder Jean Makoun's return has
boosted the squad after missing the previous duel to a hamstring
problem.
His tight marking, defense splitting passes and mazy runs from
the middle third to the attacking third could cause problems for the
Lone Star.
In recent matches, Eto'o had been almost a nominal figure and can
be described as an enigma, as he has failed to bring his in-form
ability with club Barcelona to that of the National team.
An evidence is the last match against Liberia where he was
substituted after 68 minutes and surprisingly had just one major
attempt on goal.
But, he is seen as a decoy where he makes a lot of dummies as
well as runs for the likes of hit man Achille Webo of Spanish Liga
side Osasuna and the versatile Marseille player Olembe as well as
players in midfield to get the ultimate.
Defensively, they are organized as evidence of conceding just one
goal in 270 minutes with Liberia interestingly beeing the only side
to rattle their net.
With the return of the resourceful premiership side Reading
rearguard Andre Bikey partnering with the rugged captain Song only
brave hearts and minds can survive such defense.
In Carlos Idrissa kameni they have a reliable save pair of hands.
The Espanyol shot stopper has the tactical awareness, and salute
catches.
But, they are not without problem as their left wing back,
Timothy Atouba is less adventurous and is not as pacy as Geremi.
Also, captain Song at times is accusing of being too emotional at
times and technically gifted players can punish him.
he is also crucified of being over enthusiastic and is anxious to
win the ball on the first attempt.
The skills of Grandpa Doe, Dioh Williams and Anthony Laffor
caused problems for their defense in the first leg at the Amahdou
Ahidjo Stadium in yaounde.
They have strength in depth which indicates they have a good
bench.
Young French Ligue 1 club Toulouse defense ace Eric Matoukou who
partenered Song in the first leg is a reliable reserve. Also,
Beenoit Angbwa of Russian club Krylia Sovetov is also a reliable
defender.
In midfield French side Nancy youngster Tsafack Nguemo Landry and
Achille Emana of Toulouse are also worth replacement.
The sensational striker Idrissou mahamodou of German club
Hannover is arguably the most potent force on the sidelines.
His aerial prowess and positional plays are his forte, and has
managed to score three goals in two matches against Equatorial
Guinea where he scored a brace (Replacing Eto'o who did not play due
to injury) and a solitary strike against the Lone Star.
