MUSCAT — Veteran forward Hani al Dhabit was on target as Oman
defeated Liberia by a solitary goal in their friendly match at the
ROP Stadium yesterday. Oman played without some of their
professional players, including Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ali al
Habsi. And that gave their Uruguayan coach Julio Cesar Ribas an
opportunity to test his reserve strength against the visitors.
But the hosts found to difficult to get past the Liberian defense
until Hani struck just before the break. In the second session too,
Oman were given a tough fight by their rivals, who did well to keep
the final score line to 1-0. Ribas’ Oman played yesterday's match as
part of their preparations for the forthcoming 2010 World Cup Asian
zone third round qualifiers.
Oman are schedule to a few more friendies in the coming days. They
take on Kyrgystan at ROP Stadium on Sunday and then host Yemen on
May 3 at the same venue. They are schedule to travel to Syria for a
friendly on May 10 and play Turkmenistan at home on May 18 before
heading for South Korea for a camp. From South Korea, Oman will
travel to Japan to play their next World Cup qualifier on June 7.
