Guinea beats Liberia

The National Under-20 team of Liberia has been beaten by their Guinean counterparts in the first leg preliminary round match of the 2009 African Youth Championships.

Guinea beat Liberia 1-0 on Sunday in Conakry in a tense and breathe taking showdown.

The Guineans scored on the Junior Lone Star in the last minute of stoppage time (92nd minute).

The two sides will meet in two weeks in Monrovia for the 2nd leg.

The sides are playing in the preliminary round of the 16th African Youth Championship.

The technical staff of the Junior Lone Star named 19 local based players and one foreign based for the encounter.

The foreign-based player that featured in the match was Joseph Smith who plays in United States.

The winner from the Liberia and Guinea two legs showdown will meet the Ivory Coast.
