FOOTBALL FANS DESPERATE FOR FC FASSELL

As the first phase of the Liberia Football Association
Cellcom-sponsored National League comes to an end this
month, soccer fans and supporters of one of Liberia’s finest
clubs, FC Fassell as well as soccer lovers, are calling for
the team’s return.
In an interview with this paper at the Antoinette Tubman
Stadium (ATS), fans expressed their desires to see Fassell
playing again because of the level of improvements she has
and continues to contribute to the Liberian football sector
and to the nation’s peace building process. A fan of BYC
affirmed that both the FA and Fassell were in error for the
suspension and court method, respectively and that the best
way forward is to resolve the matter amicably. A fan of
LISCR FC like most of the soccer followers interviewed
stated that the FA was wronged for suspending the Club
instead of suspending the players or officials involved in
the referee saga. He then called on the FA to see reasons to
bring the Club back to status quo and let the good of the
game prevail.
As you can recall, the Liberia Football Association after an
Executive Committee meeting on March 31, 2012 suspended FC
Fassell for failing to pay her debt relating to a fine that
was levied against her for her players brutalizing match
officials during a league match last year. FC Fassell
Management in response took the FA to court putting halt to
some national league activities around the Country. Rumors
have it that, thru the intervention of some major
stakeholders and senior government officials, a meeting was
held and that all were settled between the both parties. Up
to now, FC Fassell is still facing suspension.
On the morning of May 10, 2012, the Tusa Field sports pitch
in Gardnersville was a scene of amazement when fans of FC
Fassell gathered to watch a re-union match between officials
of FC Fassell and the playing body. Supporters were happy to
see their boys back in actions, proving to them that all was
well and their team is at the verge of making a comeback.
Whether or not the FA will listen to the true followers of
football in Liberia, is a question that is yet to be
answered.
