Liberian Soccer
Exclusive Interview
LiberianSoccer.com Exclusive Interview with My Anthony Hey, The German
Coach that just completed his interview for the vacant Liberian Soccer
Sr. Men team head coach. Below are the excerpts of the interview.
LiberianSoccer.com:
Mr. Hey, Have you had a formal interview with the FA ?...If So how did
it go and what was the response of the FA and MYS to you as the Lone
Star coach?

Tony Hey: Yes, we held a very intensive
meeting on Thursday,14.02.2008 in Monrovia. During this meeting we
have discussed the way forward for the Lone Star and if myself, as the
Head coach will be a part of this.
I can say, that both
side expressed their satisfaction with the outcome of this discussions
and that the way the authorities handled the case of employing the
Head coach for the National team was very professional.
LiberianSoccer.com:
It is understood that you applied for the Job, to coach Lone
Star…Why are you interested in this Position?

Tony Hey: Because I am sure that
Liberia has much more potential than the Team has shown in the past.
We can not predict miracles, but I am sure that Liberia has the kind
of quality players that is needed to qualify for the 2.Group stage.
LiberianSoccer.com:
What is your vision for Liberia football, are you already scouting
players that you can use to build a new national team?

Tony Hey: Yes, while in Monrovia
we spend a lot of time looking into players lists and to exchange our
information, I can say, that after what I have heard, I am even
more convinced that we have the strength to qualify.
We will have to use not only young and inexperienced players, we also
need a few of the more experienced senior players as pillars for the
new team. But rest assured, the
Lone Star will have a new face and a new spirit.
LiberianSoccer.com:
Are you going to use the resources of this site to provide you with
information of All the Liberian players in Europe. You know the FA
does not have a list and the resources we have at this site.

Tony Hey: Of course I will, and I am very
thankful for all the help I can get. I hope, that everybody
understands, that the National team is a case of national interest. We
can not qualify if any individual is trying to be selfish, Football is
Teamwork. On and off the pitch.
At the end, I have to
make decisions, cause I will be responsible for it. But I would be a
bad coach, if I would not accept a helping hand.
LiberianSoccer.com:
What is your coaching style and Philosophy ?

Tony Hey: I like to interact with
players, I am surely not a dictator. I like to convince players to do
the right thing and to behave and act like a professional. There are
certain rules and regulations, all player will have to respect. Who
fails to do so, will face serious problems with me, but this I do not
expect.
LiberianSoccer.com:
What is you impression of the FA and the MYS in Liberia?

Tony Hey: As pointed out before, both
authorities handle this case very professional and transpired.
Everybody understands, how important it is for the people in Liberia
to have success in sports, especially in football.
I have had other
experiences before ,so I am very optimistic right now.
LiberianSoccer.com:
If you are selected, most Liberian Fans are calling for former Lone
Star captain Joe Nagbe to assist you in this endeavor…our question is
would you be receptive to this and why?

Tony Hey: As soon as we know that we will
work together, we will try to find the best solutions for the
technical team. I would like to see a former national team player, a
young and motivated coach with a fair and straight character to assist
me. The FA will forward the proposed CVs and I will personally speak
to the candidates.
But rest assured, we
will take this decision with the attention it deserves. We are aware
what is expected from us. Qualification!!!!!!!Not more or less.
There is a lot of work
that needs to be done, I hope and trust, that we can start very soon.
Mr
Hey , Thank you for talking to LiberianSoccer.com
