Daniel Weah
Wants Lone Star Call
 Young
Liberian forward Daniel Weah alias 'Gullit' strongly believes that it
is about time that he be extended an invitation to play for the
Liberian national football team, Lone Star.
Weah currently plays for Jonsereds IF in Sweden and was included on
list of almost 80 Liberian players based overseas, reportedly
submitted to the Lone Star team head coach Antoine Tony Hey of
Germany.
The former Olympic FC hit man firstly congratulated the Lone Star head
coach and members of the technical staff as well as the playing body
for the 2-0 away victory achieved over Sudan on March 26, 2008 in a
FIFA approved international football friendly match.
"The Lone Star is the only means of reuniting our people after so many
years, so getting such a victory makes the entire country proud," he
said from his base in Sweden.
The player apologized on behalf of the foreign-based for their ability
to show up for the match in Sudan.
"I will tell the coach that all is not lost. With the task on hand, he
needs all the players abroad more than ever before to be blended with
our local compatriots," Danie explained.
He then admonished the coach to give every Liberian player including
himself (Weah) the chance of justifying himself on the national team.
The likes of Dulee Johnson, Jimmy Dixon and Lamine Ousman are the
players regularly called from Sweden to feature for the Lone Star.
However, according to Gullit, he is anxiously looking forward to the
moment when he would form part of the Sweden contingent to be called
by the Lone Star.
"I am very much confident that if I am given the chance one day, the
Liberian people will not regret what they will see from me," the
striker added.
Daniel happens to be a tall goal scorer with a power head scoring
ability like his namesake, the legendary George Oppong Manneh Weah.
The player revealed that he has been preparing good enough to be
included on the national team.
He is dreaming of making the list when the Lone Star starts the joint
2010 World and African Nations Cups qualifiers, beginning at the end
of May against the Scorpions of Gambia before facing Senegal’s Lions
of Teranga and the Desert Warriors of Algeria.
For the time being, Daniel is seriously focused on the new 2008
football season in the Scandinavia.
