With the retirement of Liberia's Sports Ambassador, who
at one time provided uniforms and equipment to the Liberian national
football team, many people were wondering who could have step into his
place.
Another Liberian Jonathan Sogbie did provide
uniforms and equipment to Lone Star on many occasions. But he is no
more with the team.
On Friday morning in Addis Ababa, one of
Liberia's enterprising midfielders, Bill Neewray, who plies his
professional trade in Switzerland presented a set of uniforms to the
Lone Star.
Neewray, who presented the uniforms to head of
delegation Peter W. Kabia said, he had arranged with a Swiss sports
company named FEEL FREE to provide uniforms to the Lone Star. "All
that the company wants for the Lone Star to do is wear the uniform
against Ethiopia and thereafter an agreement can be reached for them
to provide complete team kits to the Lone Star," Neewray said.
The uniforms presented by Neewray included 20 soccer
jerseys, 20 soccer shorts, 20 pairs of soccer sucks, 20 training bibs,
25 t-shirts and 2 sets track suits.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Kabia thanked
player Neewray and urged him to continue to think about his country in
these difficult times. He said the materials will be used for the
intended purpose.
Also making remarks was Mr. Christian King,
who is representing the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He said
Neewray's presentation was necessary at this critical time in the
country when there was no money for sports.
He admonished him to always remember his country as a
goodwill ambassador in the Swiss league.
Meanwhile, the local players also extolled their
colleague for remembering the Lone Star. He hailed him and pray that
he continues to remember the Lone Star.
