Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Madam Julia Duncan Cassell has made a Big Donation of several sporting materials which could give a big boost to her county’s hope of clinching the 2009/2010 edition of the National County meet organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS).

The materials, according to Mr. Arthur B, Jimmy, Vice Chairman for Administration of Bassa Sports Association, include two sets of football, 28 pairs of boots, 28 pairs of shank guards, 25 players bag as well as several footballs.

The county achieved the feat with a 3-2 victory over Grand Kru County in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.

The match kicked off at 4:00 local time with both teams playing a very careful match probably to observer each other.

Bassa locked sluggish in the first four minutes, but the David Doe guided side organized well around the sixth minutes of the well attended match with their effort paying off well in the seventh minute with a fantastic striker from midfielder lad Titus Williams, alias Lampard who rattled the net from a scramble play to put Grand Bassa in the lead.

The score line remained at equilibrium (1-1) for the entire first stanza with both teams mounting immense pressure to outdo each other.

Back from recess, it was Grand Kru County that looked extra ordinary especially in attack with Captain Anderson, David Zuma and Maxon Juwle increasing pressure on the Bassa defense, but the likes of Jackson Lewis, Pape Joseph and Christian Logan were outstanding and eased the pressure at certain point.

Just 15 minutes into the second half, Bassa’s Sporo Somah, who is one of the outstanding players in the competition, combined with Jerry Vonyeegar and Lahai Sackie to put Bassa in front, but the visitor goalie in the form of Prince Toe made a brilliant save for the Kru boys.

The Doris Williams stadium turned quiet in the 69 minute of the encounter when Grand Kru County Captain, Andrea Anderson superb pass found teammate Varney Boakai, who increased the score line for his side.

With 21 minutes remaining, Grand Bassa County coach David Doe saw the need to collect the maximum three points as he soon injected a bit of urgency to the match with the introduction of deadly striker Varney Dukuly, who later became the hero of the day.

His introduction raised the tempo of the match as the visitors played under enormous pressure.

The deadly striker, Dukuly found the match equalizer for his side in the 79 mimute and as well, created and scored the crucial penalty in the extra three minutes to see Grand Bassa County qualified to the quarters of the National County meet with a high earned 3-2 victory.

The win means Bong, Sinoe and Grand Kru will battle for supremacy to see who qualify with Grand Bassa County in group D.

‘I feel very fine to break over two years record for Grand Bassa County by taking the county to the quarter final of the National County meet.
