Bestman Differs With LFA

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The president of the first division side Black Star have threaded a different path regarding the appointment of soccer star George Weah as president of Bassa Defender.

Mr. Pennoh Bestman called on the Liberia Football Association (LFA), which has rejected the appointment, to do away with "stopping a figure like Weah" for the sake of soccer development.

Instead of the trend the LFA is taking, Bestman wants the football house to approach the issue in a mature manner. "I think the LFA is worried about the pending elections."

Bestman wondered why a "potential like Weah should be held back while the LFA is not prepared to help any club."

Bestman said the move by the LFA to reject the new leadership of Bassa Defender should have been called for when there was a protest. "It is good for the LFA to be at clubs' elections in case of complaints, but in the case of Weah, there were complaints," Bestman said.

Bestman said, "let sleeping dog lie." Yet he vowed to always speak against the ills of the game.
