Basketball Teams Fail In Guinea

The two leading clubs and basketballers in the country arrived back
home without making any significant impact in the FIBA-Africa 2005 Men
Champions Cup qualifiers in Conakry, Guinea .
At the end of the total matches, LPRC Oilers and NPA Pythons failed to
reach the finals of the championship.
On October 23, LPRC Oilers lost to Stade Malien 65-89, while BACK beat
NPA Pythons 71-39.
Later on October 24, the NPA Pythons bowed 73-95 against Union Bank. A
day after, the Liberian derby produced a 68-59 victory for the NPA
Pythons over the LPRC Oilers.
As for the October 26 encounters, LPRC Oilers went down to ABC 37-69
as Stade Malien whipped NPA Pythons 70-66. Only the LPRC Oilers was in
action on October 27 but the team lost 72-63 to MBC.
On October 28, the NPA Pythons got defeated by 62-82 at the hands of
ABC. However, on October 29, NPA Pythons won 73-66 over MBC. BACK
subsequently faltered 61-70 against BACK.
On the seven-team table, the NPA Pythons finished in fifth place with
eight points, while LPRC Oilers ended at the bottom with six points.
The three teams that reached the finals are ABC of Ivory Coast with
twelve points, followed by BACK of Guinea and Union Bank of Nigeria
with ten points each.
Though not qualified, Stade Malien of Mali lied in fourth place with
nine points as MBC of Guinea got the sixth place with eight points.
The finals of the 2005 Men Champions Cup would be played from November
12 to 19, 2005 at a country yet to be disclosed.
A total of ten teams including the reigning African 2004 champions
Primero di Agost of Angola have reached the finals. Apart from the
current champions, the other nine clubs went through the qualifying
rounds played in Conakry, Guinea as well as Douala, Cameroon and
Maputu, Mozambique.
