Barrolle Regains Top Spot

LFA Defending Champion Mighty Barrolle

Thursday, 31st May 2007

…Gives I.E. “Kayan Pepper” (1-0)

Liberia Football Association (LFA) defending premier champions, Mighty Barrolle, have moved back to the top of the premier table after whipping their long time traditional archrivals 1 – 0 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium yesterday in front of a record crowd.

Invincible Eleven (I.E.) dominated most parts of the game but failed to utilize golden scoring chances. For almost 15 minutes in the second half, the midfield of Barrolle broke down thus giving I.E. a complete control but the “god of goals” was never on their side to the disappointment of hundreds of their fans, who packed the stadium to cheer their team.

Mighty Barrolle, who had very little scoring chances, got a penalty late in the first half but could not convert it into a goal, as goalkeeper Edwin Boakai denied the “Rollers” with a brilliant save that carried the entire stadium wild.

For 90 minutes, none of the two teams could pull the trick and get that much desired goal that could separate the two sides and bring smiles to the faces of their fans.

With just few seconds remaining for the final whistle, the “Roller” managed to break through the defense of the yellow boys and found skipper Sieh Coleman, who scored a miraculous goal that resembles that of Didier Drogba’s goal against Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

The numerous Barrolle fans that turned out at the stadium danced and cheered their team after the match, lifting skipper Coleman sky-high in jubilation.

The win puts Barrolle on top of the table with 18 points slightly ahead of LPRC Oilers on superior goal difference. NPA is now in the third position with 15 points while Invincible Eleven follows with 14 points.
