As the battle for the championship in the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) Premiership intensifies, defending champion Mighty
Barrolle and LPRC Oilers are currently neck-to-neck to determine who
assumes or retains supremacy in the bout.
The “Red Boys,” who were recently comfortably seated at the top of
the table slipped after drawing two matches in succession in the
Port City of Buchanan. The “Rollers” are now slightly behind LPRC
Oilers in goal difference with both teams seated at 24 points after
playing 14 matches.
Yesterday, in Buchanan City, the “Red Boys” came from a 2-1 defecit
to force LISCR to a 2– 2 draw; while “Oilers” for her part scored a
dying minute goal to compel NPA Anchors to a 1– 1 draw in Monrovia.
NPA got an early minute goal through Jaryan Alfred and blew off
several other scoring chances. Although Oilers fought to make a
comeback to find the equalizer, the goal did not come until the 90th
minute.
Oilers’ Nigerian international skipper, Osieugue Chinwed capitalized
on a complacent Anchors’ defense to take a terrific shot from behind
the 18-yard box to find the equalizer. The goal carried the entire
field wild not just because of its timing but also because it gave
his team the desperate equalizer that keeps them slightly on top of
the table.
Also yesterday, Black Stars, who is also determined to move on top
of the table, walloped Roots FC 5 – 0 in Unification Town, Margibi
County. Black Stars currently has 22 points from 13 matches. For her
part, Roots is currently looming around the relegation zone with
just 12 points from 14 games. Another team struggling over the
relegation imbroglio is Mark Professional, who has only 4 points
from 13 matches.
Coming up in another premiership encounter, the nation’s “Yellow
Boys,” “ Invincible Eleven”(IE), will engage Watanga FC today at the
Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia. The match is a crucial
one for both teams; as a win will put either side in contention with
NPA Anchors for the fourth place spot on the Premiership table. Both
IE and Watanga have 18 points from 13 games.
