As the Premier, 1st and 2nd Divisions title chase in the Liberia
Football Association (LFA) National League rapidly draws toward the
climaxing stages, the champions in the various divisions are yet to
be decided.
With no more than 3 matches left for any team in the various
divisions, there is no club in any of the divisions that can
uprightly boast of clinching the championship before the leagues
close in their various divisions, something, which is strange in the
country for many years now.
This factor alone has led many followers of the game to the
conclusion that this year’s league is more challenging as compared
to previous leagues.
In the Premier Division, the Championship could be decided among
four teams who are all in strong contention; LPRC Oilers, who moved
to the top of the table yesterday, Monrovia Club Breweries, who was
dethroned by the “Oil Boys”, Invincible Eleven (I.E.) who took a
brief lead over the weekend and Black Star, who sits at the fourth
spot on the table.
The tournament is at a critical stage and fans are keenly following
each match as the events unfold at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium,
ATS. Likewise, the table continues to rotate among the contenders
for the title.
Yesterday, LPRC Oilers returned to the top of the table after a
superb 1-0 victory over Watanga in a match that was full of tension.
Oilers, sometimes ago lost the top spot and has been fumbling at the
second and third position but a 35-minute goal from Amadiah Rennie
yesterday was sufficient to put them back on top temporarily.
Prior to Oilers clinching the top spot, Monrovia Club Breweries
managed to hold the top spot briefly, thereby dethroning I.E. after
whitewashing Roots 2-1.
However, supporters of Invincible Eleven are still confident of
wining the championship as their team has two more games to go as
compared to their rival, LPRC Oilers and M.C. Breweries, who have
just a single match each remaining. I.E. could eventually win the
championship if she goes on to win her remaining two matches.
