LFA Prepares Lone Star’s Training Budget

February 20, 2003
As the date for the Ethiopia Vs. Liberia
match in the African Cup of Nations’ qualifiers draws nearer, the
Liberia Football Association has begun putting finishing touches to
the training budget of the National football team, the Lone Star.
Making the disclosure yesterday to this paper, Chief
Scribe Yanqueh Borsay said the draft of the budget is on his desk and
is awaiting the appropriate committee to review it before forwarding
it to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He said the Committee was scheduled to have reviewed
the budget yesterday and present the final draft to him. “Once we are
through with that, the budget will be presented to the Sports
Ministry,” he noted.
What is not known is whether the Sports Ministry will
be in the position to vouch for the amount that the budget will
contain for Lone Star to begin training since there are reports that
the Finance Ministry has written notifying the Sports Ministry that
there is no money.
But there are other reports that the Chief Patron of
Sports President Charles Taylor has assured that the Lone Star will
continue the 2004 Nations’ Cup qualifying series. President Taylor
gave the assurance some time ago during his regular tete-a-tete with
local and international media.
Lone Star is yet to commence training for the Ethiopia match
which is scheduled for March this year. Lone Star must at least pull a
draw to remain in contention in the qualifiers.
