…As Izetta, Siaka In Unpredictable Race Members of the Liberia
Football Association, LFA are gathering in the commercial capital of
Margibi County, Kakata to witness its 12th ordinary congress and
general elections.
The question as to who becomes the next LFA president
has been filtering the city in recent times, but the final battle is
expected to be decided tomorrow, when hundreds of the association’s
members will visit the poll to elect its new corps of officers. The
LFA election has been described to that of the 2005 presidential
elections that witnessed the women going against the men.
This time around, the “Iron Lady” of the Liberia
Football Association, Cllr. S. Izetta Wesley will go against her Vice
President for Administration, Mr. Siaka A. Sheriff in a battle that is
expected to be a very tough and unpredictable one.
The two aspirants have been outlining their plans for the
association and have since committed themselves to vigorous campaigns
around the country. Both of them have assured the public that upon
their ascendancy to the LFA high post, they will improve football
programs in the country.
For her part, the incumbent Cllr. Wesley disclosed that
she wants to be given the chance to run for her own term, so as to
complete what she has already started, in order to take the
association to the next level. While Mr. Sheriff expressed that the
development of football programs in the country is one of his major
concern to ascend to the LFA presidency.
After the pronouncement of the two aspirants’
intensions, several renowned sports personalities in and out of the
country have been pledging their unflinching supports for the two
candidates, thus giving different reasons each, for supporting either
of the aspirants. But the decision to elect the FA new corps of
officers has now become the responsibility of the eligible voters who
are now preparing to make that remarkable decision, something that
will decide the future of the association, either to improve it or to
damage it completely.
In recent time, the former Lone Star players pledged their
support for Cllr. Wesley, while members of the former first division
Lone Star Players gave their support to Mr. Sheriff. Later on, the
former deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Zogar Wilson and Mr. Edward
Forson said that they will prefer Mr. Sheriff for the LFA Presidency.
In a related development, the CEO and president of the
Pan African Travel Agency, (PATA), and a sports educator at the
British school of Lome, Togo, Mr. Joseph G. Henries late yesterday
pledged their support to Cllr. Wesley for the LFA presidency.
The two sports enthusiasts point out that despite the fact
they do not have a voting right.
