Lone Star Coach Roberto Landi
Written by Gonue Karyah
The head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi,
will lead a team made up of local-based players, known as
“Super Eagles B” against Coach Roberto Landi’s home based
players, also referred to as Lone Star B.
Reports say the Keshi men are expected in the country
between today and Friday, to challenge their host (Lone
Star) on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the Samuel K. Doe
Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia, in an
encounter which officials of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) termed as “Inaugural Football.”
LFA officials say the international friendly is in
observation of the second inauguration of President Ellen
Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia and Africa’s first elected female
president.
The international friendly between both sides is also in
preparation of the Africa Cup of Nations 2013 qualification
which is expected to kickoff next month.
Liberia, like Nigeria, missed out on qualification for the
2012 AFCON and are now rebuilding under their respective
coaches, and both have called up a group of promising
players from the local league as a platform of building for
the future.
The full listings for Sunday’s game are expected to be
released today as well as the official time and entrance
fees for the game.
Liberia’s acceptance to play Nigeria is owing to the refusal
of Teranga Lions of Senegal due to the fierce rivalry
between both countries in football.
Stephen Keshi indicated that playing against a full-strength
Teranga Lions with his side made up of new players from the
local league is disastrous.
