A Tribute to
Victor Sieh
By Albert K. Jaja
Shockingly, the cold
hands of death penetrated the walls of the St. Joseph Catholic
Hospital in Congo Town, snatching away the life of Mr. Victor Sieh,
Sr., one of the country’s most prolific football technicians.
The news of his sudden demise was
not only horrifying, but it also left many sports enthusiasts,
government officials and grass rooters alike in a state of grief, as
the country has in deed lost one of its finest sports administrators.
When news of his demise on
February 5, 2003 hit the airwaves, it sent shivers down the spines of
not only his close associates, but the entire Liberia Football
Association (LFA), where he had spent most of his life from 1965 to
1975, either playing for or coaching the nation’s pride and joy, the
Lone Star.
The late Sieh, who featured for many
top-notch Liberian clubs including Bame and St. Joseph Warriors, bade
farewell to the playing pitch in 1978 to pursue a coaching career,
first in Ghana and later in Germany.
He will be truly missed.
