Division Clubs Screen Sheriff
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Amidst the euphoria ahead of the elections of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA), division two clubs last Thursday cross-examined
Siaka A. Sheriff, contestant for President, at the Cathedral High
School.
During his deliberations and response to questions, Mr. Sheriff
claimed that football has been his business all of his life on grounds
that he believes in unifying people.
The current LFA Vice President for Administration told the clubs that
there were lot of blue prints set up by him but that they were not
implemented due to unexplained reasons.
“We then decided that the way forward is to contest the LFA
presidency,” Sheriff said.
Having admitted to existing bad blood between the LFA and the Ministry
of Youth and Sport, Mr. Sheriff indicated that he, at times, played
the role of an ambassador to narrow the gap but to no avail.
He attributed the feud involving the Sport Ministry and LFA to the
argument surrounding the management of the national football
team, Lone Star.
The former LPRC Oilers Sports Association president pointed put that
it is the responsibility of the LFAS to appoint the coach of the Lone
Star, while it is incumbent upon the government to pay such person.
Therefore, he maintained that the LFA still stands by the coach
recommended, who is supposed to be Frank Jerico Nagbe, to handle the
Lone Star.
The LFA presidential candidate, meanwhile, commented on the
relationship he has with his rival Cllr. S. Izetta Wesley.
According to him, there exists a cordial tie between the two of them.
Also the Comptroller of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC),
Sheriff clarified, “opposing does not mean enemies.”
If elected, he vowed to explore an avenue that would make clubs
benefit from grants LFA gets from the world football governing body,
FIFA.
“We have observed that stakeholders have been distanced from us. We
will ensure when elected that they come close to us. We will make sure
you will be part of the LFA,” assured Sheriff. |
